U.S. Supreme Court Issues Ruling Effectively Ending Race-Conscious Affirmative Action College Admissions Programs

By a vote of 6-3 the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling stating that Harvard College and University of North Carolina admissions practices violate the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment's equal protection clause which bars racial discrimination by government entities.

Justices John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett agreed with the majority opinion.

Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented.
