Democracy Forward is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization launched in 2017.

Part of Democracy Forward's strategic mission reads:

In towns and cities across America, Democracy Forward provides legal representation and expert counsel to people and communities who make up the very fabric of American democracy — free of charge. We also leverage our collective power and the law to hold anti-democratic actors to account at the national level.

Regarding Donald Trump's second term in office, the Democracy Forward website states:

Now that those figures who were responsible for January 6th and authored Project 2025 have returned to power at the national level, our team at Democracy Forward has once again stepped up to defend our democracy. We do not underestimate the gravity of the threat to our democracy, but neither should anyone underestimate our commitment, or that of the American people, to defending our democracy from anyone who wishes to harm it. Despite these challenges, we know the American people can and will keep fighting for democracy.

As of May 8, 2025, Democracy Forward has filed 60 lawsuits against and launched 82 investigations of the Trump administration.

Commentary:

Now, more than ever, we need organizations like Democracy Forward to push back against and challenge the egregious, autocratic Trump administration. Filing lawsuits and challenging Trump in the courts is the most direct and effective method of countering what he and his administration are attempting to do, and Democracy Forward is leading the charge.
