Op-Ed | Fox News has Responded to Gavin Newsom's Recent Trump-Mocking Style and the Hypocrisy is Mind-Blowing and "Off the Charts"

Over the past week or so, California Governor Gavin Newsom and his official press office have been purposely posting content on the social media platform X, mocking Trump's own moronic posting style.

In case you've been living in a cave for a really long time, Trump's posting "style" is to use all caps, denigrating nicknames for people he doesn't like, and to rant and rave about a vast array of topics, often saying things that simply aren't true.

Several program hosts on Fox News have responded to Newsom's posts, and the responses show not only the mind-blowing and "off the charts" hypocrisy of Fox News, but also how out of touch with reality they are.

To get an idea of the kinds of things Newsom has been posting, a Fox News article published August 16 entitled "Newsom's office continues to mock Trump using his social media writing style: 'TINY HANDS'" shows a handful of Newsom's recent posts.

Steve Benen, a producer for "The Rachel Maddow Show," the editor of MaddowBlog, and an MSNBC political contributor, goes right to the heart of the matter in an August 20 article entitled "Conservative critics of Gavin Newsom's social media feed appear to miss the point". The sub-heading for the article, which is spot on, reads:

To criticize the governor's content as childish, foolish and unserious is to necessarily criticize Trump's content as childish, foolish and unserious.

Some of the criticism came from Dana Perino on August 18 on the Fox News program "The Five" when she said:

You have to stop it with the Twitter [X] thing. I don't know where his wife is? If I were his wife I would say, 'You are making a fool of yourself, stop it!

Do not let your staff tweet—and if you are doing it yourself, put the phone away and start over. He's got a big job as governor of California but if he wants an even bigger job he has to be a little more serious.

Perino said "making a fool of yourself, stop it!"

Gee, who does that sound like? How many ridiculous, inane, and caustic posts have been issued by Trump, let's say just during his second term, where he rants and raves about a smorgasbord of sometimes non-related topics, making a complete fool of himself? Trump should just "stop it!"

Perino goes on to say that "He's got a big job as governor of California." It seems to me that Trump has an even bigger job as president of the United States, so why in God's name does he spend so much time posting on Truth Social?

According to "Roll Call" Trump has posted 29,152 times (all time) on Truth Social and 58,807 times on X (all time).

According to an Independent article entitled "Truth is revealed — How Trump posts to his social site a whopping 17 times a day as he governs by social media", as of June 3, 2025, Trump has posted 2,145 times on Truth Social during his second term.

I understand the need for posting, within limits, but Trump is obviously addicted to Truth Social, and he abuses it by posting so much crap where he just rants and raves ad nauseam, which is not a good use of his time.

It's crystal clear that Perino is so deep into the cult of Trump that she's clueless and entirely missing the point. In fact, Perino made herself look "foolish" with what she said!

More criticism came from Trace Gallagher, host of the Fox News program "Fox News @ Night with Trace Gallagher," when he said:

I don't know what he's trying to do but it comes across as childish and you are the governor of the biggest state in the union, what are you doing?

Obviously, Gallagher is just as out of touch with reality as Perino.

As Steve Benen of MSNBC said, Fox News is "missing the point" that what Newsom is doing is exactly the same thing Trump has been doing for the past decade.

The hypocrisy in all of this is that Fox News (and by association, MAGA) doesn't call out Trump for doing the same thing, day after day after day, like he has for the past 10 years.

The unspoken message is that it's OK for Trump to post whatever he wants, regardless of how ridiculous, but when a liberal does it in the exact same style as Trump, well, that's just "foolish."

This is mind-blowing, "off the charts" hypocrisy!
