On December 15, 2025, following the stabbing deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Donald Trump posted the following on Truth Social:

A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!

"Trump Derangement Syndrome" (TDS) is a pejorative phrase concocted by Trump supporters to describe what they perceive as a mental disorder on the part of those who adamantly oppose Trump. TDS is not a disorder recognized by the medical community.

Later in the day, speaking with reporters Trump said "I thought he [Reiner] was very bad for our country." Trump also said "I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned."

In the article, the author notes that Jenna Ellis, a former Trump lawyer who was a key player in Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, posted the following on X:

The Right uniformly condemned political and celebratory responses to Charlie Kirk's death. This is a horrible example from Trump (and surprising considering the two attempts on his own life) and should be condemned by everyone with any decency.

First, to attack someone the day after the violent deaths of a well-known actor and his wife is pathetic and reprehensible. It shows that Trump has little capacity to show restraint or empathy, and that's especially true regarding his perceived enemies.

Second, Trump posted that Reiner died "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME." Where was it "reported" that Reiner was killed out of anger? Even if Reiner's son Nick is convicted of murder, and even if Nick in fact killed his father in anger, before an investigation and a trial takes place we don't have all the facts.

But Trump doesn't stop there. He goes on to claim that Reiner had "TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME" and that his TDS is what caused the anger. Just because you're an outspoken critic about someone, especially someone as pathetic and dangerous as Trump, does not mean you have some kind of mental disorder.

The whole concept and idea of TDS is to vilify and paint Trump critics as radical, not in touch with reality, and mentally ill. It's a way for Trump and MAGA to simply brush off and label anyone who says anything anti-Trump as "just another Trump-deranged liberal." That concept and idea is BIG TIME B.S.!

Third, Trump says "He [Reiner] was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession" and "obvious paranoia." As always, Trump exaggerates "to the max" for effect. Yes, Reiner was an outspoken critic of Trump, but to say he drove people "crazy," that he had a "raging obsession," and that he obviously was paranoid, is way, way over the top, and by the way, words that directly apply to Trump!

As always, Trump can't handle or tolerate ANY form of criticism. He ALWAYS, without fail demeans and vilifies his perceived enemies (even after their death), which is why he JUST HAD TO SAY what he said on Truth Social. He just had to twist the knife one more time into Rob Reiner.

Finally, after vilifying Reiner, Trump closes his post by saying "May Rob and Michele rest in peace!"

WOW, only Trump can be this conflicted, pathetic, and beyond FUBAR all at the same time! Apparently, Trump thinks that showing a bit of respect after ripping someone apart makes him a good person after all, or some B.S. like that.
