Photographer Wins White House Correspondents' Association Journalism Award for Photo of Donald Trump

The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) recently announced its journalism awards for 2025.

The awards included journalists at the Associated Press, CNN, Getty Images, and The Wall Street Journal.

The award in the "Visual Journalists" category went to Andrew Harnik (Getty Images) for his photograph of Trump standing alone at his desk, looking disconnected from what's happening to his left as four other people attend to a person who has just fainted.

It's also worth noting that the WHCA award for "Broadcast" went to CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins, who Trump has publicly disparaged on more than one occasion.

On December 6, 2025, Trump called Collins "Stupid and Nasty" | CNN in a post on Truth Social.

On February 3, 2026, in the Oval Office Trump said the following to Collins:

You are the worst reporter. CNN has no ratings because of people like you. You know she's a young woman — I don't think I've ever seen you smile. I've known you for 10 years. I don't think I've ever seen a smile on your face. You know why you're not smiling? Because you know you're not telling the truth.

Commentary:

If ever there was a photo of Trump that captures his true essence, this is it - standing alone, seemingly disconnected, disinterested, and maybe even annoyed by what's happening around him.

What makes the photo so telling about Trump is that he's not helping the person who has just fainted. Instead, Trump stands alone and apart, arms at his sides, with an expression on his face that makes you wonder what he is really thinking.

The photo is the epitome of someone who cares only about himself.

An April 16, 2026 article on BuzzFeed entitled "One Photo Of Donald Trump Just Won 'Excellence In Journalism,' And It's Really Something" referenced the photo, saying "This photo perfectly encapsulates the essence of the Trump administration."

The article also shows a bunch of other notable photographs taken of Trump during his second term in office, one of which shows an illustration of Trump appearing to be Jesus Christ.

A social media post compared the "Jesus Christ" photo with the award-winning photo of Trump standing alone, noting:

"Trump claims he thought the portrayal of him as Jesus was actually him as a doctor. Here's a nice reminder of what he does in real life when someone is having a medical emergency."
