A lone gunman shot and killed three children and three adults at The Covenant School (a Christian elementary school) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The shooter, a 28-year old former student of the school named Audrey Hale, was shot and killed by police.
Hale was armed with two "assault-style" weapons and a handgun during the attack. Hale gained entry to the school by shooting out glass doors.
Police discovered a manifesto, said Hale had a detailed map of the school building, and said Hale conducted surveillance of the building prior to carrying out the attack.
At a news conference Nashville Police Chief John Drake stated that Hale was transgender.
