According to a NASA study conducted over the ten-year period 2003-2013, the 37 largest aquifers around the world are being depleted (more water is being removed than replaced). The study is part of NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission, which uses the Earth's gravity to determine aquifer water levels.
