Op-Ed | Donald Trump is in Serious Psychological Decline (Part 2)

This is my second HWR post documenting the continued and ongoing psychological decline of Donald Trump. Read my first, June 3, 2026 post here.

On June 24, 2026 Trump posted the following on Truth Social:

MY REAL POLL NUMBERS ARE THE HIGHEST THEY HAVE EVER BEEN. THANK YOU!!! President DJT

Trump's post appears to be in response to a Daily Mail/JL Partners survey published yesterday on the Daily Mail website which shows Trump's approval at 47% and his disapproval at 53%.

The Real Clear Politics website is the "go to" source for polling information because it averages all of the major polls over a long period of time. Cherry-picking any given poll, like Trump just did, is NOT an accurate representation of reality. Averaging polls over time IS.

Looking at current Real Clear Politics polling data for "President Trump Job Approval" shows June 23, 2026 at 40.4% approval and disapproval at 57.5%. Looking at a graph of Trump's approval numbers shows a steady and consistent decline from 50.5% on January 27, 2025 (right after he took office for his second term) until his 40.4% approval rating as of yesterday.

Note that this average includes the Daily Mail poll Trump appears to be referencing.

First, Trump is lying when he says his approval numbers are the "HIGHEST THEY HAVE EVER BEEN" because in January of 2025 his approval numbers were slightly higher at 50.5%.

Second, Trump is delusional to think that one lone poll is an accurate indicator of where he stands.

Of course, Trump's massive ego just couldn't resist its urgent and insatiable need to gaslight even Trump himself into believing something that doesn't square with objective reality.

On June 24, 2026 Trump posted the following on Truth Social:

Today's Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

Today, Trump was scheduled to sign the "21st Century ROAD to Housing Act" which is a bill intended to help boost the U.S. housing supply and lower costs for millions of renters and buyers across the U.S.

Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill by a vote of 358-32. The bill previously passed the U.S. Senate by a vote of 85-5. In a time of highly-polarized government, that is nothing short of a miracle.

Obviously, Trump is holding the bill hostage in an attempt to get his beloved SAVE AMERICA ACT passed.

Holding hostage a bill that could help millions of Americans with housing is not reasonable or rational.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren (a Democrat) said:

I just, I don't have any idea. This just doesn't make any sense, other than whatever it is he wants to do, it's a complete indifference to the cost squeeze on American families and to genuine efforts to do something about it.

You know, he could be over here trying to claim a victory lap and instead he's saying no, no, he doesn't want anything to do with it. It's because he really doesn't care about American families and doesn't care about the fact that prices are up and the promises he made to lower costs on day one have not only come to nothing, prices are higher on groceries, prices are higher on health care, prices are higher on virtually everything that Americans buy because of Donald Trump's policies.

Note that Trump said he considers the SAVE AMERICA ACT a "National Emergency."

Trump has claimed numerous "national emergencies" during his second term to justify his ill-conceived policies. Trump is telegraphing his intent to declare a "national emergency" if the SAVE America Act is not passed.

Make no mistake about it, Trump intends to follow through on his threat. As Senator John Cornyn recently said, Trump "revels in chaos," and trying to push through the SAVE America Act by declaring a "national emergency" would create lots of chaos and legal challenges as we approach the November mid-term elections.

Jun 25, 2026 Update

An Opinion article written by Lindsey Granger entitled "Trump holding housing reform hostage over SAVE America Act" was published on The Hill website. Here's some of what she said (bold added for emphasis):

But here's the thing: Federal law already makes it illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections. The penalties include prison time, fines and deportation. And according to multiple studies and audits, documented cases of noncitizen voting are extremely rare.

The Brennan Center found suspected noncitizen votes represented just 0.0001 percent of the 23.5 million ballots examined in its study. Even the Heritage Foundation's election fraud database identified only 23 cases of noncitizen voting over nearly two decades. The Bipartisan Policy Center found 77 cases nationwide between 1999 and 2023.

Now, none of that means election integrity isn't important. Of course it is. Americans should have confidence in their elections. But the SAVE America Act is aimed at a problem that evidence suggests is already extremely uncommon, while potentially creating new hurdles for eligible voters who don't have easy access to citizenship documents. Millions of voting-age Americans do not have those documents readily available.

Granger is spot-on with her comments.

Trump is holding the housing bill hostage in order to push through a bill that isn't necessary and doesn't solve any problem.

He's doing it, of course, because passage of the bill (the SAVE America Act) would help to further justify his "Big Lie." It would help to prop-up, soothe, and confirm to his ego that he has been right all along with his belief that the 2020 presidential election was "rigged" and "stolen."

Let's zoom out for a moment to put what's happening now in context.

EVERYTHING that's been happening with the incessant and ongoing Trump/MAGA effort to ensure "free and fair elections" is a direct result of Trump's "Big Lie" that the 2020 presidential election was "rigged" and "stolen."

Those of us who are reasonable, rational, and who base our opinions on facts and not conspiracy theories know that Trump's "Big Lie" doesn't square with objective reality.

Stop and think about how much misguided time and energy has been spent by Trump and those who believe Trump's "Big Lie."

The "Big Lie" has become a radical, out-of-touch-with-reality movement borne of the ego of one crazed, sick man.

If you've been really paying attention to everything that's happened since Trump's loss to Biden in 2020, then you know that what I am saying is true.

Trump just turned 80 years old.

He's becoming more and more controlled by his massive, power-hungry ego day by day.

I am not looking forward to what will happen as we approach November elections.

Rest assured that it will be "B-squared F" (beyond, beyond FUBAR).
