2017 U.S. Global Change Research Program Climate Science Special Report (CSSR)

Nov 3, 2017:

The "Fourth National Climate Assessment | Volume I" (NCA4) was released today.

This assessment concludes, based on extensive evidence, that it is extremely likely that human activities, especially emissions of greenhouse gases, are the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century. For the warming over the last century, there is no convincing alternative explanation supported by the extent of the observational evidence.

Aug 7, 2017:

An article in The New York Times discusses a draft climate change report conducted by 13 different agencies of the U.S. federal government. Here's a summary of the draft (based on an article on The Hill website):

  • Some of the scientists associated with the report fear that the Trump administration will suppress some or all of the report's findings.
  • Although the study has been publicly available on a government server for months, the The New York Times article makes it known to the general public.
  • The report directly contradicts some of the Trump administration's arguments.
  • The study reiterates the need for a major reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Climate change is already affecting people.
