The Health Care Fraud Case of Dr. Farid Fata

In Detroit, Michigan in August of 2013, Dr. Farid Fata was arrested and charged with fraud for treating patients with medically unnecessary oncology and hematology treatments and then billing Medicare for $35 million. Fata pleaded guilty to the charges.

What makes this case exceptional is that unlike typical Medicare fraud where patient health is not directly affected, Fata was administering chemotherapy to patients, causing them to endure all of the mental, emotional, and physiological side-effects of a patient who actually has cancer.

  1. This just further supports my long time beliefs that the medical industry projects "supposed" illnesses, questionable symptoms and scare tactics onto patients.

I recommend the following when considering any treatment plans, prescriptions, procedures or surgeries:
    **Do the research
**Have a trusted friend with whom you can discuss medical issues
**Always get a second opinion before starting major medical anything

REMINDER: it is practicing medicine, not an all knowing, powerful science
