Truck Attack in Nice France Leaves Over 80 Dead and Over 200 Injured

French authorities arrested eight more people in connection with the Bastille Day truck attack.

French prosecutor François Molins said that Bouhlel had accomplices and had been planning the Nice attack for months. He also said French police have five suspects in custody, all facing preliminary terrorism charges for their alleged roles in the attack.

Jul 16, 2016:

Two days ago, at the Bastille Day celebration in Nice France, a lone attacker drove a 19-ton truck through masses of people killing over 80 people and injuring over 200 others.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old native of Tunisia.

French prosecutor François Molins said that over the past six years French police were notified of alleged threats, violence and thefts perpetrated by Bouhlel. Molins also said that ealier this year Bouhlel received a suspended six-month prison sentence after being convicted for weapon violence.

Although no group directly claimed responsibility for the attack, the Amaq news agency, which is linked to the Islamic State, reported that Bouhlel was a "soldier of the Islamic State".

France announced it would put 12,000 police reserves into duty as a result of the attack.
