The U.S. Senate passed a $1.1 trillion spending bill by a 56-40 margin. The bill funds the U.S. Government through September 30, 2015.

The Washington Post has a good summary of the bill in an article entitled "What’s in the spending bill? We skim it so you don’t have to".

Note 1 - passage of this bill substantially increases the amount of money contributors can donate to political campaigns, undoing some of what was accomplished with the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (McCain–Feingold Act) enacted in March, 2002.

Note 2 - passage of this bill makes a significant change to the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act enacted in July, 2010.

Note 3 - passage of this bill funds the Department of Homeland Security through only February 27, 2015.
